Baptism<\/strong> is one of the oldest traditions of the church; it has sometimes been called \u2018Christening\u2019.
\nBaptism is a public expression of thanksgiving for God\u2019s love and a commitment to belonging to a Christian community and is open to anyone of any age.<\/p>\n

If you would like to be baptised, or you would like your child to be baptised, there are a few steps of preparation beforehand. After contacting the church office the parish priest will arrange to meet you either at your\u00a0home or at the Church to talk about what baptism means, the involvement of parents and Godparents on the day, and how we can help you to connect with our parish community as you continue your journey in the Christian faith. You will be asked to complete an application form and be given some reading material. You will also be invited to attend worship. This is especially important if you haven\u2019t had much to do with the church before so that you are familiar with the service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

Adults who feel ready to be baptised usually undertake a longer process of preparation, because of the significance of the promises they will make for themselves. Adults who choose to be baptised are often confirmed at the same time, by the Bishop of the diocese.<\/p>\n

Whether you or your child is being baptised, the main promise you make is this:
\nBy your prayers and example, by your friendship and love, will you encourage (NAME) in the life and faith of the Christian community?<\/em>
\n<\/em>The response is:\u00a0\u201cI will with God\u2019s help\u201d.<\/em>
\n<\/em>
\nBaptism is not a stand-alone event, it is a commitment to something for life - much like a wedding service is a commitment to a life-long marriage. It is important to consider this promise and what it will mean for you to make it. You will probably have questions about what baptism and being a Christian means. That\u2019s good! We are here to support you as you explore your relationship with God.<\/p>\n

After the Baptism to help you keep the promises you\u2019ve made we will keep in touch with you, via visits, calls and invitations to various events that may be of interest to you.<\/p>\n

There is no fee for baptism; however, you may like to make a donation to support the work of our church community\u00a0on the day of the baptism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

Confirmation<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Different people will come into contact with the church community at different stages of life. \u00a0For each of us, there comes a point in our lives when it is time to publicly acknowledge our faith as we seek to live as followers of Jesus Christ. This is particularly true for those of us who were baptised while we were very young. Confirmation is that opportunity. If you would like to know more about baptism or confirmation, please feel free to contact one of the clergy. Confirmation acknowledges the promises we make in baptism and our calling as God\u2019s people to serve our church family and our wider community.<\/p>\n

Baptisms may be celebrated during the services of Holy Communion:
\n5.30 pm Saturday evenings<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>8.30 am Sunday mornings\u00a0<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Or during a stand-alone baptism service at
\n10.30 am on Sunday mornings\u00a0<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Other times may be possible by arrangement with the parish priest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>
